Newcity’s April 30 issue, presenting “Breakout Artists: Chicago’s Next Generation of Image Makers,” marks our sixth annual edition devoted to showcasing Chicago’s top emerging artists. Each new edition of Newcity’s “Breakout Artists” issue has become the talk of Chicago during the course of the Art Chicago/Artropolis art fairs.
Newcity’s Breakout Artists, with its focus on identifying the next generation of leading Chicago artists and its timing during the art fairs, is the city’s most important contemporary art publication of the year. And this year, with the MCA opening a major new exhibition that weekend (Olafur Eliasson) and the Art Institute on the verge of debuting its Modern Wing, the intensity of the art conversation will be more powerful than ever.
